General Information

Medicine

If a resident is provided with any home remedies such as cough mixture, paracetamol, it is very important that staff are notified immediately to enable records to be kept up to date. However, we would prefer to stock the medication in our locked drugs cabinet to prevent any misuse.

Laundry

All clothing brought into the home must have the resident's name clearly marked. The home will not accept responsibility for loss of items due to unmarked clothing. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide a dry cleaning or hand washing service and request that residents or relatives make arrangements for these items to be cleaned.

Maintenance

Should you require any maintenance work in your room, please advise the Care Manager who will endeavour to make any repairs as soon as possible.

Alcohol

The home does allow residents to consume alcohol in the privacy of their own room. However, we reserve the right to withdraw this choice under certain circumstances, where it affects other residents, staff or resident’s health. For further information, please request a copy of our policy on alcohol consumption.

Television

There is a television in each of our main lounges for you to enjoy communal viewing. There is a television point in each of the bedrooms should you wish to bring in your own TV set. It is essential that all electrical equipment brought into the home is checked by our Maintenance Technician prior to use.

Telephones

There is a telephone point in every bedroom for those residents wishing to have their own telephone connected.

Nurse call system

The Nurse call system is designated to ensure that, should you require assistance of a member of staff, you have a call bell in your bedroom and this is easily reached. There is another in all the bathrooms, and when sitting in communal lounges you can wear a mobile call bell should you need assistance from staff.

Visiting times

We operate an "open house" visiting policy, which means all are welcome at any time. If visits are made late at night, we would ask that consideration to be given to other residents.

Signing in /out

All visitors are requested to sign in and out when visiting the home. This information is very important if a fire breaks out within the home.

Mobile Library

Southend-On-Sea mobile library can visit if requested.

Newspapers/ Periodicals

If you require a daily newspaper or magazine please contact the Administrators office who will be happy to place an order for you with the local newsagent. Newspaper bills will be settled from your pocket money account.

General Practitioner

If your GP is local to the home then they will continue to visit you here at Cavell Lodge. If this is not possible we will register you with our local GP. This GP does weekly visits to the home.

Gifts

To prevent any misunderstandings or accusations the staff have been advised to adhere to the following guidelines:

- Gifts of money or personal belongings from residents are strictly forbidden.
- Staff should never borrow personal items belonging to residents.
- If, however, a resident insists that the gift be accepted, then the Manager must be informed at all times.

Accidents

If a resident has an accident or falls within the home, please notify a member of staff immediately for assistance.
If a resident has an accident or falls outside of the home, we request you notify the staff on duty on your return, so that we can keep observations and record the incident in our accident report book for future references.
